Some people think that today’s 18-year old’s are not responsible enough to get along in the real world. Some people are forced to grow up quickly while some are slow to face the world around them in an adult way. In most places once you are 18, you are considered an adult and as such you are expected to know certain things.
You should be able to talk to people by the time you are 18. Children are taught not to talk to strangers but as an adult the world is full of strangers that must be interacted with in order to be successful. By the time you are 18 you should be able to tell the bad people from those that you can and need to talk to.
By the time you are 18 you should be able to find your way around. Sounds a little trivial but some kids today don’t know their way around. By the time they’re 18, many people will have to be on their own and maybe in another city, or country.
Handling interpersonal problems is something an 18-year-old should be able to handle on their own. Too many parents and adults shield their kids when it comes to resolving personal problems. Sometimes help is needed but asking for that help is also an adult thing to do and should also be a skill that everyone should have by the time they’re 18.
Making money and knowing how to manage it is a necessity in life, and every 18-year-old should be able to do it. Some kids receive money for whatever they want and develop trouble when it comes to a sense of responsibility.
Knowing failure is sometimes a good thing. To be successful in life, and 18-year-old must be able to take risks and face the consequences if things don’t go the way they planned.
The adult world can be easy, or difficult and having these skills will help anyone deal with it and be successful.
