Walking Together For Change

Every October, communities across the nation pause to honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In San Bernardino, that recognition takes on a personal, powerful meaning through the annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk, hosted by Akoma’s Golden Age Club. This event is more than an opportunity to lace up your sneakers. It is a day for families, friends, and neighbors to walk together in solidarity, remembrance, and hope for a cure.
On Saturday, October 18, 2025, Akoma Unity Center and the Golden Age Club, in partnership with Susan G. Komen For The Cure, will gather at Anne Sherril Park for a day of awareness, education, and connection. From 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, participants will not only walk to show their support but also explore a vibrant community resource fair filled with health information and local organizations committed to prevention and care.
Register today to walk with Akoma and the Golden Age Club. Together, we can make a difference in San Bernardino and in the world. Call 909-217-7956 today to register.
Why This Walk Matters
Breast cancer has touched nearly every family in some way. Whether it is honoring a survivor, remembering a loved one, or supporting someone currently fighting, the walk offers a moment to stand shoulder to shoulder in unity. The act of walking becomes symbolic: each step forward is a step toward greater awareness and renewed hope for a cure.
More Than Just A Walk
What sets the Akoma Unity Center Breast Cancer Awareness Walk apart is its community-centered focus. Alongside the walk, attendees will find a wealth of San Bernardino-specific resources at the community fair. Local health providers, nonprofit organizations, and advocates will share information on prevention, treatment, and support services. Additionally, breast cancer survivors will be celebrated and have their stories shared, deepening connections that will extend far beyond the day itself.
A Community United in Hope

The Golden Age Club, known for its dedication to wellness and togetherness for seniors, has created a tradition that uplifts every generation. From youth joining their grandparents to families walking in memory of loved ones, this gathering is a reflection of San Bernardino’s resilience and care. As autumn brings cooler days and the season of giving approaches, the walk reminds us of the strength found in community when we come together for a cause larger than ourselves.
